Identify the application—office, classroom, retail, healthcare, hospitality or another commercial space—and describe whether the work is new construction or retrofit. Provide ceiling type, mounting height, available aperture or suspension condition, supply voltage and the target date for a schedule decision. If a lighting calculation already exists, name the required maintained illuminance, relevant vertical-light criteria and any UGR or color-quality target rather than sending an unexplained fixture count.
For controls, state whether the basis is 0-10V, DALI-2, phase dimming or an existing connected system. Note occupancy sensing, daylight harvesting, scene control, emergency behavior and the party expected to commission the system. Centralized management can simplify portfolio policy, while distributed devices can offer zone flexibility; the project network, maintenance plan and wiring constraints determine which trade-off is appropriate.
Depending on the selected family, the response may point to an IES or LDT file, product data, mounting information, driver interface details and declared UL, CE or RoHS scope. Availability is configuration- and market-specific. A sample can help review finish, perceived brightness and dimming behavior, but it cannot replace a room calculation, local-code review or final commissioning.
To protect accuracy, avoid describing a requirement only as “bright,” “efficient” or “smart.” Luminous flux in lm, CCT in K, CRI, beam distribution, ingress conditions and a named controls interface create a comparable record. Field dimensions, surface reflectance, furniture and installation tolerances can still change the result, so the licensed project team retains final approval.
